September 29, 2004

Herald Staff Report

Broward County's Animal Care and Regulation Division web site is now available in Spanish.

Residents can visit www.broward.org/animal and click on ''En Espanol'' from any page within the site to access information in Spanish.

The site provides information on pet safety during the hurricane season, adoptions, lost and found animals, animal laws, licensing and rabies in both English and Spanish.

Also, returning to the English version of the site is easy. Simply click on ''In English.''

According to 2002 U.S. Census estimates, 18.7 percent of Broward County residents speak Spanish as a primary language. More than two-thirds of the county's 410,000 residents born in foreign countries come from Latin America.

Plans for Broward County's web site, www.broward.org, include expanding Spanish language translation services to other areas of the site.

The Broward County web site consists of more than 19,000 pages with information on approximately 100 county agencies.

Broward County's web site receives 1.7 million page views per month.
