Swedish retailer IKEA recently launched a new concept store in Al Ain, the fourth-largest city in the UAE. The store is noteworthy for maximizing a comparatively modest brick-and-mortar floor space by shifting emphasis to catalog and online sales.
According to the UAE-based newspaper The National, around 2,500 IKEA products will be available at the store, based near the city’s Bawadi Mall. However, customers can easily explore and purchase thousands of additional products in the store, via IKEA’s UAE website, available in Arabic.
The products – be they purchased in-person or online – are then available for in-store pickup or delivery within two days, the story said.
“The customer ordering and collection point is yet another channel bringing the IKEA brand even closer to the residents of Al Ain and surrounding areas,” John Kersten of IKEA UAE, Qatar, Egypt and Oman told The National. “Historically, the UAE is an extremely dynamic market that adapts well to new formats.”
This concept store is the latest addition to a region that’s important to IKEA. The company also has traditional stores in Dubai Festival City and Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
